First thought is Wow!
Followed by mixed feelings about more Star Wars movies. If they are more like the original trilogy or the Zahn novels, I will be beyond excited. If they are more like the prequels or the Clone Wars cartoon series, not so much.
Is there anyone Disney can't/won't buy up? Pixar, Marvel, and now LucasFilms (Star Wars) makes an incredibly strong portfolio for top notch entertainment.
Of course DC still has the awesome backing of the WB and they're not a Mickey Mouse outfit yet. Although you could make an argument otherwise
Forgot to add that Hasbro must be elated!

Holy crap. Episode 7? As long as George doesn't direct it.

Basically what I just posted over on Randy's front page story:
Does anyone else find this news as disturbing as I do? Anything Disney can’t create, it has to own. We’ve already seen their meddling with Marvel, I shudder to think of a “Disneyfied” Star Wars Universe! What’s next: Mickey as Chewbacca? Maybe a Cantina scene with nothing but animated Disney characters? God help us….

I don't know what to make of this except that George Lucas has a ton of cash right now. Holy cow! And to think of all the studio execs who passed on Star Wars back when Lucas was pitching the idea.
If they do Episode 7, they need an older Luke. Hmmm… who could pass as an older Mark Hammil (unless they need a really old Mark Hammil and then they could just get the real Mark Hammil)?
Will Kevin Bacon be in Episode 7? OK, seriously…
Just when I was kind of hoping Hasbro was out of material so my wallet could just pass on the endless repaints and repacks that await us in future years, here we go. New characters to collect.

Overall I have to say I find the news disturbing and disappointing. I see it as part of an overall pattern of acquisition in this country where companies just become ginormous and leave us with fewer and fewer choices, as well as fewer opportunities for the little guys trying to start something. Soon we'll have just one or two giant banks, entertainment corporations, airlines, etc.
Seth McFarlane tweeted about the Disney/Lucasfilm deal, something to the effect that, "oh, great, Star Wars is now in the hands of the talented dream makers who gave us 'Mars Needs Moms.'" I can't say I disagree. And for years I've hated — HATED — how they have to put their name on every bloody property they acquire. I was shocked when last year's Muppets movie wasn't billed as "Disney's Muppets." Disney's Sleeping Beauty, Disney's Pinocchio, blah, blah, blah. Walt didn't write those stories, and his studio barely gives credit to those who dis.

Granted I understand your rant on this however the versions of the fairy tales you mention ARE Disney's versions of the stories and only use the basic premise of the original stories. The general distinction, at least at the time, was that these films were Disney approved for the kiddies to view and did not include some of the more horrific parts of the originals. I could see them rebranding the Muppets later down the line but currently they are still thought of as "Henson's" to the average consumer, many who still have no idea that Disney bought the characters some years ago. Disney would not want to do anything to diminish the brand at this time but as time passes, and the current representations do not strengthen it much, Disney may well rebrand it in some way. Disney presents: Henson's Muppets, perhaps?
