Just out of curiosity, does anyone on this site actually read comics? if so, has anyone been following the DC New 52? Not really knowing a whole lot about DC, my LCS got me started with the Flashpoint series this summer. I followed a majority of that series and have been getting all of the New 52. I figured this was as good a time as any to jump head first into DC and try to make sense of it all. So far, I have subscribed to about 6-7 books, and I still have about 15 of the #1's left to read, so that list could go up.

I was wondering if anyone has been reading them and if so, what they thought about the New 52 as a whole and what, if any, of the new books they liked. So far my personal faves that I have added to my pull list are Batman and Robin, Suicide Squad, Deathstroke, Justice League, Red Hood and the Outlaws, and Resurrection Man. I'm on the fence about Aquaman and possibly Justice League Dark. If I don't like any of the remaining books, I will probably add those to my pull list as well.

So, what's everyone else reading?

I bought 3 so far. Justice League, Batman and Wonderwoman. They could be all right, but I don't typically buy comics when they come out, I like the collection in trade paperback form better. I did like the Ultimate line from Marvel when that came out. It's nice to get a more modern story and not have to worry about continuity problems.

I'm an avid comic collector – and have been totally stoked about the new 52.  I picked up the majority of the #1 issues and have been pleased with most of them.  For me, all the main Justice League members who have their own book are great, with the exception of Superman #1 (not to be confused with Action #1).  I especially liked Aquaman #1.  Some of the sleeper hits that I didn't think I'd collect regularly are Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Batgirl, and Stormwatch.  But of course, they weren't all gold, as Hawk and Dove and Green Arrow were underwhelming.

One thing that kind of annoys me though is the way they tried to fit in the past continuity of some of the stories into this new timeline.  For example, they are keeping all of the Batman and Green Lantern history in tact from before the new 52, but are totally re-hauling Superman and Wonder Woman.  If the whole point of doing the new 52 was to start fresh, they should have just done so with everyone, rather than trying to fit all their history into a five year span.

Oh, and one other thing that bothers me is the new costumes.  Though I don't mind taking away the outer-underwear for Supes and Bats, the over-use of armor/seam-lines on them (as well as Flash and GL) is pretty annoying.

Other than those two complaints, I'm on board for the new 52.  The majority of the stories and characters that I'm interested in are well written and well drawn.   My DC/Marvel grab used to be around 50/50, now it's probably 70/30 in DC's favor.

You've got quite the pull list Cloud. I'm really trying to average the cream of the crop with stuff that my son likes to read as well. I just finished a bunch more this weekend and will probably be adding New Guardians, Aquaman and possibly Justice League Dark.

I am still missing 5 of the #1's, but I am trying to track down 1st printings only. I need Animal Man, Stormwatch, Teen Titans, Batgirl and I, Vampire. My LCS is a tiny shop in a tiny town, so he got shorted on almost every single DC book the last month. He didn't get most of week 1 or 2, and none of week 4. Strangely, he did get all of week 3. He ran a deal for the whole collection at a severe discount, now I feel bad because the guy is still owed about 30+ books, as am I. Instead I went to a larger shop and got all of the 1st printings I could find. Hopefully, I can track down the others and not hurt my wallet too much. I figure with an event this big, I really needed to get them all and bag them. In this day and age, most comics are worthless, in terms of resale, but with something like an entire line's reset, I can't see how that won't be worth something one day, maybe pay my son's college or buy him a house. :)

Stormwatch and Animal Man were both books I was interested in, and I have the #2's so I'm hoping to find the #1's soon so I can get to reading them. I liked quite a few of the books, but I need to narrow it down so that I can actually afford to read them. I'm thinking that some of my pics may even fall off after the first arc, but for now I'll keep buying them.

I actually wasn't counting on Men of War being very good, but I like that they threw in some Meta and possibly supernatural elements. I bought #2 just to see how it was and I might end up picking up #3. I'm still on the fence about it. Same with Red Lanterns. I liked the character designs in Blue Beetle, but not sure I liked them enough to keep reading.

One that I was very disappointed with was Frankenstein. After reading his books in Flashpoint, I added the new series to my pull list. Once I got the #1, I was almost forcing myself to like it. I replaced Franky with Resurrection Man.

What else do you read outside of the New 52 Cloud? I have a very small list which includes Fables, I Zombie, True Blood, anything Millar, Green Hornet, X-men Legacy, Uncanny X-force, TMNT and The Infinite. I also pick up other small series when they come out like Incognito.

Joe, i tend to buy the trades on stuff I either missed out on or limited series type stuff like Marvel Universe vs. Punisher, which was a freaking awesome book. :)

Oh man, good luck tracking down those remaining five, monkey!  I *think* Teen Titans and Stormwatch might be easier than the other three – I know my store ordered heavily on the DC 52, and Animal Man and Batgirl have been sold out for some time (only getting second printings in on AM).

I do collect Marvel, and used to try out more Vertigo/Independent comics before.  But the major publishers sort of pushed out my ability to afford new things.  I was really invested in the Ultimate Universe, but now only do Ult. Spider-Man.  Outside of the 52, my pull-list includes:

Amazing Spider-Man

Avengers

New Avengers

Captain America

Invincible Iron Man

Mighty Thor

X-Men

Uncanny X-Men

Ultimate Spider-Man

Fables

Walking Dead

Savage Dragon

Superior

Brubaker's Icon Series (Criminal, Incognito)

As well as the occasional mini-series (Fear Itself, Avengers: Children's Crusade, etc).  Having written all this down, I didn't realize how much I've trimmed down my Marvel selection!  And like you, Monkey, I try to do trades where I can as well :)

I've seen them online for a decent price. I'm thinking of just pulling the trigger on them. it might cost me a few extra bucks per issue, but it will be worth it to have the whole set. That said, I should have several duplicates as well, probably all 2nd and 3rd printings since my LCS got shafted. I could get into a whole other rant on Diamond, but I'll save that for another day. :)
