[snd] clap [wait] 100 Narrator ONCE upon a time there was a prince who wanted to marry a princess; but she would have to be a real princess. -Prince Talking to Queen by big fire place. Prince I traveled the world, but nowhere could I find what I wanted. There were princesses enough, but it was difficult to find out whether they were real ones. There was always something about them that was not as it should be. So I came home again and I am sad, for I would have liked very much to have a real princess. -Queen Putting a shaw around her neck. Queen Fear not my son. You will find your Princess soon. -King pouring a drink. [snd] LiquidPour [wait] 50 king I did not find your mother until I was two years older then you. So see! . There is still time to find a real princess. [snd] Music3 Narrator One evening a terible storm came on; there was thunder and lightning, and the rain poured down in torrents. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the city gate, and the old king went to open it. [snd] DoorKnock [wait] 50 King I wonder, who could be out on a night like this? [snd] DoorKnock [snd] FishBubble Narrator It was a princess standing out there in front of the gate. But, good gracious! what a sight the rain and the wind had made her look. [snd] FishBubble Narrator The water ran down from her hair and clothes; it ran down into the toes of her shoes, and out again at the heels. Princess I am princess Gillian, from the north, And, I need some food and shelter. Can you please take me, and my horse in from this rain? [snd] HorseWhinny [wait] 50 [snd] FishBubble king Come in my poor child. And we will, give you some dry close and food. -Queen Standing behind king. Queen Well, we'll soon find out if this rain soaked rag a muffin is a real princess, or not. Narrator The queen went into the bed-room, took all the bedding off the bedstead, and laid a pea on the bottom; Narrator then she took twenty mattresses and laid them on the pea, and then twenty eider-down beds on top of the mattresses. On this the princess had to lie all night. [snd] RoosterCrow [wait] 150 -Queen Visiting Princess next morning. Queen How did you sleep last night my poor child? Princess Sitting up in her bed. looking down at the Queen. Princess Oh, very badly! I barely closed, my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard, so that I am black, and blue all over my body. It's horrable! [snd] Music3 Narrator Now they knew that she was a real princess because she had felt the pea right through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eider-down beds. -Prince Standing at door. [wait] 100 Prince Nobody but a real princess could be as sensitive as that. [snd] Music1 Narrator So the prince took her for his wife, for now they knew that he had a real princess; and the pea was put in the museum, where it may still be seen, if no one has stolen it.
