ASK RANDY: STAR WARS CELEBRATION 2017

Randy here!

Star Wars Celebration 2017 just ended and many wonderful reveals came out of it!  The MOST important was, of course, the first trailer and footage we’ve seen from Star Wars-Episode IX: The Last Jedi!

JUST in case you haven’t seen it…

Sweeet, huh?
LOVE that last line!
I’m a big fan of Rian Johnson’s previous films, so I’m really interested to see what he brings to this Star Wars Universe!

Now to the toys!

Hasbro did slow reveals over the entire Celebration. One of the first reveals was the return of the “medium” sized vehicles, not seen since the Jabba & Speeder Bike sets back in 2014.  And that brings us to Rey and her speeder from The Force Awakens!

STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES REY’S SPEEDER (JAKKU) & REY (SCAVENGER) Figure

Great design on the speeder, plus a new sculpt of Rey is a great start!
But knowing Hasbro, I figured that it wouldn’t be the only item in the case… and my guess was on the money!

STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES X-34 LANDSPEEDER & 6-INCH LUKE SKYWALKER Figure

Luke and Landspeeder

Another smart choice here, as Luke and his Landspeeder are iconic… and this IS the 40th anniversary of the original film.  (WHERE have the years gone?!) I even suggest it to Hasbro back during the 2017 Toy Fair press tour. Though I suggest the R2-D2, instead o Luke, since it was a more difficult figure to get… back then!  The new 40th Anniversary figures have been hitting retailers, so while still popular and selling out, you still have a chance to find the R2-D2 one more!
So I’m taking credit for this being made!  You’re welcome!
These speeders and figures are due to hit in the Fall of 2017, SRP $59.99 US.
Fresh from his resurrection from Star Wars limbo, aka “Legends” status by Lucasfilm, into Star Wars Canon with Season 3 of “Rebels”, comes Grand Admiral Thrawn!

STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES 6-INCH GRAND ADMIRAL THRAWN Figure

Thrawn’s always been a popular character, ever since his first appearance in Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire started. The idea of a villain who is much more a strategist & planner than Darth Vader was a smart choice on Zahn’s part. He’s been put to good use in the season 3 of “Rebels”, and also introduced to a new generation of Star Wars fans. Looks to be packing a sidearm blaster and an fine white uniform!

Thrawn is due to hit in the Fall of 2017, SRP $19.99 US.

A classic villain who started it all in Star Wars, then came back to “life” in Rogue One, the classy and villainous Grand Moff Tarkin!
STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES 6-INCH TARKIN Figure

With the return of Darth Vader in the 40th anniversary figures, it’s great that will get the other half of the villainous duo. Plus, Tarking comes with the “torture “, er, Interrogation Droid, so you can reenact these now -creepy scenes with his daughter!

Tarkin is due to hit in the Spring  of 2018, SRP $19.99 US.

Speaking of Star Wars “Legends”, 2016′s Fan Poll winner made its debut-daughter of Han Solo and Leia Organa, Jaina Solo!
STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES 6-INCH JAINA SOLO Figure

Image/s of JAINA SOLO

While not Star Wars canon, the addition of more women to the Star Wars Universe is always a good think, especially in figure form! Dig that blaster and PURPLE lightsaber! Guess I’m doing to have to read up on why she’s in a black pilot flightsuit…

You can look for Jaina’s…. SOLO debut… in the Fall of 2017, SRP $19.99 US.

EXCLUSIVES
For good or bad, it just wouldn’t be Hasbro without exclusives!

They’ll be doing a Deluxe Landspeeder and Luke figure as a 2017 Comic Con in San Diego exclusive set.  The set will upgrde from the regular retail release by having more detailing on the speeder (you can check under the hood!), as well as additional poncho and Luke’s lightsaber

I always appreciate when the con exclusive isn’t a character that is only available there. That ways lies anger and madness!

This will be available, obviously, at SDCC.  SRP $89.99

Not to be outdone, Grand Admiral Thrawn gets the deluxe treatment the display box is a recreation of his office in Rebels.

This set is a GREAT one for all the fans of Thrawn’s appearance in Rebels. Featuring the art that Thrawn studies for ways to defeat his enemies, as well as other artifacts and helmets. This a pretty sweet set, as far as I’m concerned.
This will be available, obviously, at SDCC.  SRP $49.99 US

We leave Comic Con for GameStop!
Based on the new Star Wars Battlefront video game, you get one of the Empire’s elite-Inferno Squadron!

Nice repaint/deco of the TIE Fighter Pilot, but makes me wonder if a specific Iden Versio might make it out as a separate figure…

The figure already up for pre-order through Gamestop, due to hit in the Fall of 2017, SRP $19.99 US

And our final announced exclusive is for Toys R Us… Commander Gree.

There haven’t been a lot of recent releases from the Prequel Trilogy, though Qui-Gon Jinn is due shortly. I dig the Clone Troopers, and especially the camo’d Commander. I’m hoping this signals the return of some troopers to lead as well.  Otherwise, I’ll have to procure some in other ways…

Commander Gree is due to hit in the Summer of 2017, SRP $24.99 US
This will keep some of us happy for the next few months… til July-and Comic Con San Diego reveals arrive!

Be seeing you,
RANDY
