Warner Bros. shows the Darkside of the JLA with Justice League Dark
Warner Bros. brings us another amazing R-rated animated film with Justice League Dark. Last summer they released the Killing Joke, which was the first release from WB with the R rating for violence. Now we are treated to this thrilling adventure with some of our favorites, Batman (Jason O’ Mara), Constantine (Matt Ryan), Zatanna (Camilla Luddington), Deadman (Nicholas Turturro), Superman (Jerry O’Connell), Felix Faust (Enrico Colantoni), Jason Blood/Etrigan (Ray Chase), Wonder Woman (Rosario Dawson) and even Swamp Thing (Roger Cross)!
Living up to its name, Justice League Dark opens up with a very violent scene with a woman doing some serious damage. (The movie has quite a few violent scenes and light cuss words, so this is definitely not for the kiddos.) Not knowing what to expect from this movie, I was greatly surprised by the fact that this was one of my favorite story lines in an animated movie in a long time! I absolutely loved the dark tone and the unexpected yet, perfectly balanced humor throughout. Jason O’ Mara does an excellent job as Batman, and some of his responses are hilarious. Deadman was one of my favorites in this movie as well, not only bringing comic relief, but Turtorro brings this character to life straight from the comics.
Matt Ryan reprises his role as Constantine, now in animated form, and does an excellent job along with Camilla Ludington as Zatanna. I absolutely loved seeing the interaction between them and their strained relationship.
It was also awesome to see Swamp Thing in his first ever animated movie! He got some decent air time towards the middle of this movie and it definitely left me wanting to see more of him in future movies.
The animation and character design was great, the storyline was amazing, and the cast did an excellent job. If you’re into DC or JLA, do yourself a favor and go watch this. You won’t be disappointed.
