Randy…STILL here in 2013!
Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m hoping to scrape away the ectoplasmic residue of 2012 and have a better year than the last.
So let me go through last bits of 2012 and some new stuff for 2013.
LAST OF 2012
30 years after he hit the screen and became an action movie icon, here’s NECA’s first John Rambo figure from First Blood!
The figure stands 6 3/4″ tall, has over 25 points of articulation, and comes with survival knife & M-60 machine gun. Rambo’s scheduled to invade stores in April 2013.
I’ve been waiting on this since they first were announced in May 2011.
Personally, I was hoping for the “burlap poncho” version of Rambo (see below) to be the first out of the gate, but I’m just happy they are going to finally be released. But I’ll be waiting… and I won’t “let it GO!”
Also revealed around Christmas by Randy Falk, with no explanation til Toy Fair, was this image for fans of Predator… andPredator 2!
Any Predator fan will recognize that image. What does it mean? Well, that’s something that we won’t hear about til the American International Toy Fair in New York City in February.
Speaking of which…
PRE-AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL TOY FAIR 2013
Hot Toys has let a few of their licenses for 2013 slip, though not necessarily surprising. They include:
-GI Joe: Retaliation (Snake Eyes, Joe Colton, Roadblock and Storm Shadow
-Iron Man III
-Man of Steel
-The Lone Ranger
-Disney/Pixar’s Monster University
You can see a few of these in the preview image that Hot Toys recently posted:
Tony Stark is hanging out in his new duds, both civilian and metal, Roadblock, Storm Shadow, Joker from Arkham City, Bruce Banner (dig the purple shirt), a couple of Endoskeletons, a unknown Prometheus astronaut, somebody with a cape (X:FC Magneto? Mos Superman?), Batman Begins Bat “arsenal” & suit holder and ED-209
As much as I’d like it (but can’t afford it), I’ll believe The Bat is being released when I see it in person. (NOTE-Apparently The Bat is 1/12 scale, not 1/6)
It was revealed that NECA has the license for Guillermo del Toro’s kaiju vs. giant robot epic Pacific Rim, starring Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba and Ron Perlman.
Not sure what I’m talking about? Take a look:
Giant Robots versus Space Monsters! YAY! This feels like playing Shogun Warriors vs. Godzilla as a kid… and I Love it!
I know people who have dismissed this as being silly and unrealistic. My inner ten-year old tells them to lighten up and stop acting your age! I can’t wait for this to hit this summer!
I think NECA will be a good choice for this line, perhaps even splitting the line into 7inch and 3 3/4inch figures so we can get some cool Jaeger robots!
Hopefully we’ll see more from NECA at Toy Fair next month.
Lego has two interesting licenses going for 2013.
First up is Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger. Finally-more Johnny Depp mini-figs!
Multiple sets have already announced.
The title of the sets might be Spoilery-you’ve been warned:
79106 – Cavalry Builder Set
79107 – Comanche Camp
79108 – Stagecoach Escape
79109 – Colby City Showdown
79110 – Silver Mine Shootout
79111 – Constitution Train Chase
The Longer Ranger and Tonto will be riding into retail in the Spring.
And a blast for the past license… Back To The Future!
But don’t look for them in stores. This project will be available through LEGO CUUSCO. This was where the Shaun of the Dead playset idea came from, though Lego nixed it last year.
Here’s more on it:
More info when I know of it.
NECA has been back on the 1/4 scale figure front in 2012 with no signs of stopping in 2013. They’ve already released a Gollum figure from The Hobbit-An Unexpected Journey that looks gorgeous… though I’ve yet to see it in person. They’ve already previewed their up-coming line from The Avengers. Now a couple more for this year:
All of these are looking quite good to me.
1/4 scale Bilbo stands 12″ tall and features over 20 points of articulated, dressed in his traveling outfit and comes with his sword, “Sting”, and a sheath. Late April/Early May 2012
1/4 scale Captain America will have over 25 points of articulation including neck, shoulders, torso, elbows, hips, knees, wrists, and more. Includes Cap’s signature shield with straps and interchangeable hands. He should be hitting in stores right about now.
Oh yeah…ONLY 7,500 FIGURES AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE!
This goes for the Iron Man due in April 2013!
And according to NECA, “we’re doing more than just Avengers. Marvel is a big Universe.” YESSSS!
Now I leave you with a favorite song on 2012 that I never get tired of hearing, bopping my head along. And I love that I’ve heard it pop up on four different style radio stations here in LA!
(Some naughty words)
Hope to talk to you before Toy Fair hits!
