Randy here… with a big boy toy!

It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Katsuhiro Otomo’s AKIRA epic anime-I’ve forgotten how many times I’ve seen it. And with that, my love of the Kaneda’s sleek, futuristic motorcycle! I happily own the inaccurate McFarlane version of the bike and still covet the 1/6 Project BM! version of the now iconic fictional vehicle.

Though calling it “fictional” is no longer accurate any more!

When I read and saw this last week and knew I couldn’t not talk about it. Masashi Teshima built a working version of the motorcycle!

Don’t believe me? Here it is in action!

It took him seven years and 10 million yen(over $120K US) to make. While not only fulfilling a glorious otaku‘s dream, he has been able to raise money for cildren with autism & for the relief and recovery from the 2011 tsunami. It’s currently on display at the Katsuhiro Otomo GENGA Exhibition.

Read the full story here and here.

I salute your glorious madness, Masashi!

Be seeing you,
