TOYGODD REVEALS NEW MINI GLASS DESTROYER

Hello again! So, when last we left The Destroyer, he was a resin figure that Eric Nocella Diaz of Argonauts Resin, had helped create from a sketch provided by a new artist, Oh Negative. Eric created a blank D.I.Y. which was sent around the world to 30 artists to paint n their own image. The pieces were than sold and the proceeds given to Operation Smile, a very worthy charity that helps children in poor countries with Cleft Pallet. Well, the project didn’t go as well well as we had hoped and The Destroyer took a hiatus. After well over 18 months the Destroyer is back….IN GLASS and miniaturized. First off I will reveal that I am “Oh Negative”. I felt at the time that having a blind name so to speak might make the project sell better . Believe it or not I have done several customs over the years that have sold! Anyway, I got in to glass in the last year and decided that taking the original Destroyer and shrinking him down to half the size and making him out of glass, rather than resin, would be cool. Below are WIP (work in progress)photos of 2 ways I am trying to bring the Destroyer to life again.

The first one is a method of melting frit (crushed glass) in a mold. This process is a bit tricky as glass seems to have a mind of it’s own. I think I have found another way (which I am currently experimenting with) that should work much better.

The second method is slumping (melting the glass over the mold so that the glass takes on the shape of the mold). This seems to be coming along. It’s a trial and error method but I am slowly but surely getting to where I want this to go.

Hopefully in the next month or so I will have perfected the first method and have some really cool pieces to show. I have to thank Eric Nocella Diaz for bringing my idea to life. I was one of the few people whose idea he took and made into an actual figure. I always felt a little sad that the Destroyer didn’t fulfill our hopes. He has been most gracious in allowing me to do the Destroyer in glass so that I can once again loose him on other toys. If you remember the Destroyer has the power to travel from place to place destroying crappy toys. He is good at it and finds it amusing. Let me know what you think.

More information in about 4-6 weeks! I am excited to bring The Destroyer to life again. I’m sure we can find some crappy toys to target!
